If the weather is good then many restaurants have tables outside and if you are sightseeing then don’t forget the therapeutic power of half an hour watching the world go by while resting your feet.

Watch out for the fixed price menus, such as offered by Tre da Tre near the tower of La Mole and the University, where you can eat for around 7 euros including pizza and soft drink in relaxed and pleasant surroundings, or another option is to head for somewhere serving fixed price pasta menus – pasta with bolognese sauce or similar should cost no more than EUR10 per head including a drink and coffee and just like pizza, there is nowhere on Earth better to sample pasta dishes than in Italy.

We can never live without food. Some peoples have much food and some others have only some food, but it is always around when one needs it. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the main squares, are what we always have daily. We can also have them in restaurants if we want to.
There are fancy restaurants which serve expensive and not-so-big dishes and wines. They remind me of a movie about a cartoon rat who loves cooking all the time. There are also bars that obviously serve liquor and appetizers. Foreign restaurants, like Mexican, Chinese, and Italian, that serve their own dishes people love all the time. Finally there are fast food restaurants that serve famously named food and people love it all their lives.

Dishes and meals can take a lot of know-how, work, and time to prepare. The quality of a dish depends on the recipe, ingredients chosen, and precise timing so if it is done wrong, the dish is considered a bad one by the taste and appearance. For some eateries, the look may not matter, the costly ones focus on both look and taste. The fancy restaurants want to make their dishes perfect and flawless, which is kind of snobby in my opinion.

Texas Hill Country Food and Wine

Held every spring, the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival is a celebration of the rapidly expanding food and wine culture to be found in Central Texas. This 501(c)4 non-profit organization was founded in 1986, and their annual festivals have become one of the hottest tickets in town. Held over a four-day span, and featuring a multitude of events scattered throughout the greater Austin area, this festival highlights the cutting edge chefs, writers, food and wine producers who have elevated Texas into the culinary firmament.

The festival is concentrated in some of downtown Austin’s most revered establishments, from the posh haute cuisine of the Four Seasons, to Austin’s own Spanish tapas restaurant, Malaga. The events radiate out from this locus, including other Austin institutions such as Central Market, and spreading out into the Hill Country wineries including Fall Creek, Becker and Spicewood. The festival culminates in an all-day fair, often held in San Gabriel Park near Georgetown.

The events run the gamut from the frenetic heated battles of Iron Chef-style competitions, to Hill Country luncheons held amid the spring wildflowers at one of the participating wineries. Film and food are combined in events held at the Alamo Drafthouse, and music and food are combined in events such as Uncorked and Acoustic, featuring some of the finest talent Austin has to offer playing acoustically while participants enjoy food prepared by Austin’s finest food talents. Bat cruises, reserve tastings, winemaker dinners and much more round out the weekend’s offerings.

The premier event is the festival’s Grand Tasting. Fittingly known as Stars Across Texas, the celebrated chefs featured here are from the hottest restaurants in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, the Hill Country and beyond – all bring their best to this unique event. The chefs and winemakers circulate throughout the event, giving participants the change to mingle and speak with these artisans in a unique milieu. With more restaurants, chefs, chocolatiers, pastry chefs, viticulturists and winemakers present than at any other event, this is truly the crown jewel of the festival.

The Sunday Fair is a less structured, more family-oriented event during which participants can sip and sample their way through a myriad of tents. Vendors include wineries, food artisans and restaurants from Texas and beyond, all proffering their specialties. Renowned chefs provide cooking demonstrations, discussion and panels are held on different food and wine-oriented topics, and since it is Austin, after all, you can count on some of the best live music from some of Austin’s favorite musicians.

Throughout the four days of the festival, over thirty individual events are held, highlighting the products of more than one hundred restaurants, and at least sixty wineries. Although most speakers and presenters are Texan, guests are invited from other parts of the country, and the world, to illuminate Texas’ impact on food and wine across the globe. The Festival is a affiliated with the prestigious James Beard Foundation, the Texas Department of Agriculture’s GO TEXAN program, the Texas Restaurant Association and the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas.

Italy has its reputation through a lot of things, from sports cars and interior design, but for all that Italian cuisine has earned a nationally renowned. Marc Fosh previously ran the Bacchus restaurant at the Reads Hotel on Mallorca but this Englishman now runs his own brace of restaurants, the Tasca de Blanquerna and the smaller Simply Fosh, both in Palma.

On the northern side of the island in Puerte Pollenca, Bar Restaurante Tolo’s creates what some describe as the best pizzas on Mallorca. The establishment is certainly well run, has welcoming staff and an enviable position right on the beach-front of this attractive resort.

Mallorca not only has a great choice of restaurants, but is also building up a reputation as a well respected wine producer. It is the island’s “terroir” or in layman’s terms, the quality of the earth where vines are grown, that makes the vineyards on Mallorca more interesting to wine buffs. Wine producers are always looking for new locations that can offer ideal conditions for the crops they want to grow. Southern England has seen Champagne producers investing in certain areas that have almost identical weather and soil conditions to the famous countryside around Reims. They may not be able to call their production Champagne, but because they use exactly the same production techniques, with state-of-the-art equipment, some English producers are gaining many awards for their sparkling wines. The native grape varieties grown on Mallorca include all the main popular names like Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, but some less well known varieties fare better and produce great wines nonetheless. More local varieties include Prensal Blanc and, for red wines, Mantonegro and Callet.

There are now said to be other 300 different wines produced on Mallorca with vineyards like the Jaume Mesquida winery and the Son Prim family winery in Sencelles both well known. The Bodegas Can Ribas near Consell offers the opportunity for visitors to come and see how the wines are made and sample the new vintages.
